Sophie has been my French tutor for half a year. We work one-on-one once a week for one hour. She is an excellent French teacher. She is sincere, educated, knows the French grammar rules very well, and she is very good at correcting pronunciation. I told her that I wanted to speak like a native French, so she tailored her lessons and we are focusing on how to de-formalize my French and on learning French slang. I like how she really listened to my needs and how focused she is on helping me obtain my goal. Lessons with her are fun and time flies by very quickly. I highly recommend her as a French teacher.

As someone who is very busy and didn't have a large window to add French lessons into my life, Sophie was there to work around my time schedule and needs and was quick to assess where my previous language skills could be foundational to learning French. With only two hour-long lessons a week, I was able to start reading novels after one year. After two years, I was able to start having business negotiations with my clients in France who were incredibly impressed with my progress. After three years, I was going to the movies by myself in Paris, understanding full dialogues with the use of subtitles. Sophie is an absolute professional with a unique understanding of the skills and lessons that suite the individual learner. I can't recommend her highly enough for anyone interested in learning French, at any level, and for any purpose. I started for business reasons, but at this point I'm entranced by the beauty of the culture and keeping up with friends I've made as a result of my new access into France.

Sophie is an amazing tutor. She begins by gaining a thorough understanding of what you hope to accomplish with the lessons and gives you materials and resources needed to help you to fulfill those goals. She is very organized and has a clear plan for each lesson. Her lessons are well explained with different types of exercises so it doesn't get boring. She encourages learning of French culture alongside the language, and as a native French speaker, her knowledge of expressions and details needed for true fluency is fabulous. She also understands school curriculums and AP testing very well to be able to help prepare for those. She was able to teach me what I wasn't learning well enough in school, and I feel much more confident after having her lessons going into my AP test. Sophie (France@yours) is a teacher who is able to adapt to the needs of a student and provide the support they need to be successful. As an example, in preparation for the AP French exam I found myself struggling in areas of grammar my class did not teach clearly or at all. Sophie approached my situation by first identifying the parts of French grammar I had trouble with, then developing a schedule with a lesson followed by a set grammar exercises she created herself. Each lesson was clearly delivered and explained the nuances of the grammar structure and mistakes to watch out for; the grammar exercises were of similar quality and tested understanding of each part of the lesson very well. Upon review of the exercise the following meeting, Sophie explained each error with the goal of understanding what I was thing at the time and how to help me avoid the mistake in the future. As another example in her AP prep program, Sophie also assigned sets of 8-15 selected articles on a particular subtopic of the themes tested by the AP exam with open-ended questions at the end to help develop writing skills, test reading comprehension, and practice using grammar structures. Just as with the grammar exercises, she corrected the writing samples with an emphasis of explaining why something was wrong and how to avoid it in the future. Finally, Sophie is the special kind of teacher who cares about the success of her students. She strives to motivate her students and actively tries to teach them the value of a strong work ethic, in which she is very experienced. If you are looking for a professional teacher who will help you achieve a deep understanding of how the French language works while gaining practical experience in how to use it both in writing and speech, then Sophie is a strong choice for you.

Sophie's lessons were a huge help to my son, in terms of his grades, his preparation for the AP test, and his understanding of French language and culture in general. Sophie knows the Paly curriculum and the AP requirements inside and out.
